Mrs. Nhi Ly Cummings - Directress
I graduated from York University with a B.A. in Sociology. After taking a year off, I decided that with all the experiences I gained from working with young children, I wanted to pursue teaching. By chance, I discovered the Montessori Program at Sheridan College. As I learned more about the program, I was intrigued by this unique approach to education. I am glad to have studied the program as I have gained a greater amount of knowledge in educating children. I have been a teacher for more than a decade, and now a new mom. As a teacher, it is rewarding to see the students’ progress throughout the years. As a new mom, I am excited to see my son grow in the Montessori program. I look forward to another great year!
Ms. Lina Dame - Directress
My name is Lina Dame, and I am a dedicated Montessori Directress with a profound respect for the Montessori philosophy and a deep personal calling to nurture trust, independence, and lifelong learning in children.
As both the previous owner and operator of a Montessori-inspired learning space, I had the privilege of designing classrooms that respond to each child's unique needs and interests. My foundation in Business Administration from Toronto Metropolitan University supports the operational and organizational aspects of running an effective classroom and learning center, while my training in Event Management from Humber Polytechnic equips me with valuable planning and coordination skills-especially when organizing enriching experiences and community events for children and families.
My core belief is that every child is capable, unique, and worthy of trust. I strive to model patience, humility, and empathy, acknowledging the child not only as a learner but also as a teacher. I am honoured to share in their stories, listen with care, and celebrate their "light bulb" moments. When a child lights up with discovery. I light up too. I bring with me not only professional experience but also personal insights. As a mother of two grown children, I have come to understand the value of trust, the power of patience, and the importance of seeing each child's journey as their own. These lessons have deeply influenced my approach in the classroom and have strengthened my desire to build meaningful, lasting relationships with the children and families I work with.
In all that I do, I strive to be a positive role model, an encourager of independence, and a teacher who leads with love, listens with intention, and honors the wonder that children bring into the world. I look forward to continuing this meaningful work, learning alongside each child, and guiding them as they grow into confident, compassionate, and connected individuals.
Ms. Geetha Visahan - Assistant
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Sri Lanka and discovered my passion for teaching young children. My journey led me to the Montessori program, where I was captivated by its unique approach to education. Completing my Early Childhood Education program at Mothercraft College deepened my understanding and love for teaching. With seven years of teaching experience, I find it incredibly rewarding to witness my students' growth and development and be part of their early years. I'm excited to bring my knowledge and enthusiasm to Northstar and look forward to contributing to a nurturing learning environment.
