I received my Bachelors Degree in History from York University and then I attended Sheridan College to receive my Early Childhood Montessori Diploma. I began my experience at Northstar Montessori School in 2000 when I completed my field placement and was hired the year after. I have a daughter who is two and a half years old and will be attending Northstar. As time passes, children grow into adolescents and in time, mature into adults. These children will need to be moulded by family values, their peers and mentors. Teaching children carries the privilege and responsibility of working with young minds whose seeking knowledge and understanding of the world around them. With proper guidance and support, children will mature into successful adults. The rewards of being a part of their lives at a time when they begin to grow are why I had become a Montessori Teacher. Seven years ago, when I started my practice teaching at Northstar Montessori, soon after, I began to enjoy the school’s specific atmosphere, and more importantly the authentic Montessori teaching approach. From the beginning, Northstar staff, students and their parents were extremely welcoming and supportive. As time passed, and the school has moved locations, the one thing that has remained constant was that initial impression Northstar had left me with seven years earlier. It is a pleasure to be a part of the Northstar community and take part in the school's success.
I attended Belfast College/Newtownabbey College in N. Ireland where I graduated in Psychology, History and Political Science. I also obtained my Montessori certification at the London Montessori Centre in Dublin, Ireland. I started working at Northstar in September 2003. The main reason I chose teaching as a profession is because of a certain teacher I had in Elementary school in Ireland. There was always a smile and encouraging words. Learning was always fun in her class. I wanted to create in all of my students a desire to want to learn and go to school. I enjoy helping the students develop their abilities and provide them the best opportunities available to achieve their goals. Being at Northstar, students and families have supports and access to many caring people all in one building. I learn so much each and every day and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of their lives. At Northstar we are a team and working in a team provides invaluable support.
I attended the Foundation of Montessori Education to receive my Montessori Assistant’s training. I started at Northstar in September 2002. I have two young children ages 2 & 1. They are not attending school yet. I enjoy working with children. It is very challenging but yet a rewarding experience every day. It is an amazing experience to watch them grow and develop their minds and spirits with independence, courage and confidence. Northstar Montessori School has a wonderful staff and I am very lucky and proud to be part of the team who are dedicated to provide a safe, nurturing, challenging and respectful environment where the students are able to achieve and reach their full potential. |
