I had attended Seneca College as well as York University before I attended Sheridan College, where I received my Early Childhood Education in Montessori, an AMS program. I started at Northstar five years ago in a Casa classroom and have maintained my position in the same class. I have two children. I am a Montessori teacher because I love children and I believe in the Montessori Philosophy. I am at Northstar because it is an incredible school that is culturally diverse and everyone’s differences are accepted. It is a truly unique and wonderful place. It is where I belong.
I completed my Montessori Early Childhood diploma from Montessori Teachers College in Toronto. Prior to this, I had a Bachelors of Science in Math and Physics. I did my placement at Northstar in 2006-2007. During my placement, I was fascinated by Northstar’s learning atmosphere, authentic approach to Montessori methods, and skilful mentor teachers. The knowledge I acquired during my stay here, as a student teacher, has helped me throughout my career. I am thrilled to be back at Northstar. Teaching has always been a passion for me. I have always loved working with young children. I find it rewarding to watch children absorb the knowledge they acquire using the Montessori materials and apply these skills in their daily life. I have three children: two daughters and a son. My son started going to a Montessori school when he was three. This was my first experience with the teachings of Maria Montessori. I observed him as he became independent, knowledgeable, and displayed great social skills. This experience inspired me to pursue my career as a Montessori teacher.
I graduated from the Early Childhood Education program at Sheridan College in 2004. Since then, I have had many opportunities to gain experience in many different settings and organizations, such as providing personal support for individuals with Autism, Youth Center Supervisor for the Military Family Resource Center in Trenton, Ontario, as well as being an Assistant Supervisor at a Daycare. I chose to work in the education field as I wanted to work with children and become a positive influence in their lives. I have the opportunity to be a role model and share their successes as well as their struggles. Witnessing a child develop a new skill is very rewarding. Working at Northstar has been truly an amazing experience thus far. The families, staff and students have made me feel extremely comfortable and welcome! |
