I attended a Liberal Studies program at Seneca College in 1997 and graduated with high honours.  In 2002 I graduated from York University with a degree, both in English and History before I attended Sheridan College, where I received my Montessori Early Childhood Teacher Education program certification and was a Sheridan Scholar.  Upon completion of my 1 year internship at Tall Pines School in Brampton I was blessed to begin my career at Northstar in September 2003.

I have two mature children who were my inspiration for becoming a teacher. I choose to be a Montessori teacher because of my love for children and desire to help all children reach their greatest potential. I believe the Montessori method provides me the best opportunity to accomplish that goal. I am at Northstar because it is an incredible school that is culturally diverse where everyone’s differences are celebrated rather than merely acknowledged. It is truly a unique and wonderful community.

Ms. Shahzad Shah - Directress

My love for children was the driving force in choosing Montessori. I completed my AMI training in Pakistan and came to Canada to join my husband here. I was fortunate to meet Renilde Montessori (granddaughter of Dr. Maria Montessori) who sent me to North York Montessori Learning Centre. I was hired and worked there for 20 years. During this period I attended many workshops, a refresher course and visited various schools for observation. One of them happened to be Northstar Montessori. I was deeply impressed by the warm and loving environment, dedicated teachers and above all children who were deeply engrossed in their work: At that moment I had a fleeting thought that if I ever change schools I would like to work at Northstar Montessori.  Many years later in 2003 this wish came true. I spent five wonderful years here but had to take a personal leave of absence. Luck was on my side again and I'm back looking forward to many more productive and fulfilling years. It’s a treat to come to school every day. Seeing the children learn and grow and realize their full potential is a very rewarding experience.

Miss Lauren Spence - Assistant

I graduated from the Early Childhood Education program at Sheridan College in 2004. Since then, I have had many opportunities to gain experience in many different settings and organizations, such as providing personal support for individuals with Autism, Youth Center Supervisor for the Military Family Resource Center in Trenton, Ontario, as well as being an Assistant Supervisor at a Daycare. I chose to work in the education field as I wanted to work with children and become a positive influence in their lives. I have the opportunity to be a role model and share their successes as well as their struggles. Witnessing a child develop a new skill is very rewarding. Working at Northstar has been truly an amazing experience thus far. The families, staff and students have made me feel extremely comfortable and welcome!
