I started working at Northstar in 2000 as a student teacher, while undergoing my training at the Canadian Montessori Institute. I had previously worked at other Montessori schools; however Northstar’s level of commitment and the staff to provide true Montessori education to the students is what motivated me to stay on. I did my assistant teacher’s training through the Foundation of Montessori Education located in Toronto, which is an AMI certification, in 2003. In 2006, I returned to school on a part time basis and completed my Montessori training through the Toronto Montessori Institute. Working with children I believe is a calling. I am a teacher because it inspires me to better myself, knowing that my actions will be absorbed by an impressionable mind. Every child that I have come into contact with in the last 7 years has inspired me and I hope that I have done the same for them. I have been at Northstar as a student teacher, an assistant teacher and now as a directress. The community of Northstar truly works together at all levels to provide each child with their own unique Montessori experience which will enable them to become better leaders for tomorrow. Each child is respected for their own personality and learning style and the teachers and the administration work together to help them reach their potential. I hope that our dedication helps us reach higher goals.
I started working at Northstar Montessori when the school first opened its new location at Tomken and Eglinton in 2007. I received my Early Childhood Education Diploma at George Brown College (2004-2005) and I graduated from the Montessori Program (Early childhood level) at Sheridan College (2007-2008). After obtaining my Early Childhood Diploma, I was very interested in Maria Montessori’s philosophy and theory of education. Having the privilege of working in a Montessori environment as a student teacher, guided me toward the right path. With the help and encouragement of my professors in college, I applied to the Sheridan Montessori program. I am here at Northstar Montessori because I had learned so much throughout my placement, that it was just impossible for me to leave the school. Currently, I am studying the Early Childhood Bachelor of Arts program, at Ryerson University. I would eventually like to pursue my studies by doing my Masters in Early Childhood. It is a great privilege to work with wonderful teachers, supporting administration, unique parents and children, who make everyday a very memorable one.
It is a brand new year here in Northstar Montessori and I am very excited to be joining the Pre-Casa team this year. I have been fortunate to be working here for quite some time now and Northstar had been part of the most important milestones in my life. I have a daughter who is now joining the Casa classroom and it only seemed like yesterday that she started the Toddler Program. Time has passed so quickly. |
